8 Months

Madison is at such a fun age!  She is learning so much each day and her personality is becoming more evident.  She is not crawling yet, but will be soon.  Time to childproof the house!  She has started to move backwards and in circles.  She tries very hard to go forward and rocks onto her knees a little.

Madison is starting to eat more solid foods.  She loves her puffs and likes most of the food we give her, even if her face doesn't show it after the first bite of something new.

I'm starting to teach Madison sign language for a few simple words like more, please, all done, up.  I'm sure it will take a little time for her to catch on but I think it will be helpful when she learns.

All day I hear "Hi", "Hey", and "Dada".  I'm not sure that she understands what she is saying but it is fun; her dad thinks she understands it though.  Madison's favorite part of the day is when her daddy comes home from work!

We took Madison to her first basketball game at Rupp.  It was a UK women's game against Duke.  Madison wasn't a fan of the loud noise so we left at half time.

A few factsWeight - Oops, didn't weigh her!  My guess is around 19 lbs.
Diaper Size - 3
Clothing Size - 9 Month or 12 Month, depending on brand
Sleeping - Bed around 8 pm and she sleeps until around 8 am.  She may wake once during this time if I don't dream feed her.

Christmas 2011

This year Christmas started for us on Christmas Eve eve with a wonderful church service.  Then on Christmas eve we went to Corbin to spend time with Todd's parents.  We first visited with Todd's dad where Madison got to show off how much she has grown since he last saw her.

Then we went to see Todd's mom where she cooked us a wonderful meal and Madison opened many generous gifts from Grammy.  She had a wonderful time!

Christmas morning we all slept in and then Madison opened just a few gifts from mom and dad.

We took the advice from our church and did an act of service on Christmas day to show God's love.  We decided to bake cookies for the international students still on campus.  We hope to do some act of service each year.  We are always so blessed each Christmas and are thankful for all we have but most of all for God sending us his son!!

Overall we had a great Christmas and loved watching Madison experience her first!

Annie Oakley

Over Christmas break we watched a friend's dog named Annie Oakley.  Madison loved her and Annie seemed to like Madison!  Annie was so gentle and patient.
I can tell Madison is going to be a dog lover just like her mom :)

7 Months

Time continues to fly here in the Cox household.  Madison is 7 months old and we have been experiencing a lot of fun firsts.  We are especially excited for her first Christmas in a few weeks!

She is now very skilled at sitting up, which she loves.  When she is laying down she tries so hard to sit up.  She probably has some great abs!  She also wants to grab everything as you can see with the 7 month candle in the picture above :)  We are still waiting on teeth!

A friend and mentor of Todd's sent us this cute Pi Kappa Phi teddy bear.  Thanks Kim!

When Grandpa was here, he took a very cute picture of Madison when she was on a walk.

A few facts
Weight - 18 pounds
Diaper Size - 3
Clothing Size - 9 Month
Sleeping - Sleep has been a little off since we went on our trip to SC and then Madison got a bad cold.  Prior to the trip she was sleeping up to 12 hours.  Now it's between 5-8 hours and I have to go in and comfort her.  Let's hope this goes back to 12 soon!

Thanksgiving

We are very thankfully this year for Madison!  She is such a joy and we can't express how blessed we feel to be her Mom and Dad.  God is Good!

This year we were invited down to Charleston, SC to spend time with my brother's family.  Originally we thought we were going to be visiting only my sister-in-law and nephew, but my brother was able to join us as well!  My parents also made the trip down and we spent a week together in the great weather.  Lexus came so even the dogs enjoyed each other.

We visited a live oak tree called the Angel Oak.  It is estimated to be 1,500 years old.  It was very cool! You can check it out here: http://www.angeloaktree.org/

We also visited Magnolia Plantation and Gardens.  Even though it was fall, it was very pretty. I'm sure it would be gorgeous in the summer.   There was a petting zoo there for the kids.  We took Madison and Christopher in to see the animals.  A sign said to watch young children around the goats since they could bite so I didn't take Madison near them.  However, it didn't warn you about the turkeys.  One came up behind me and bit Madison's toe!!  Thankfully there were just a few tears and no damage done.  We got back at the turkey population later in the week ;)

Shawna hosted a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner!  Before we left, we all went downtown and took a carriage ride.  Then Aaron, Shawna, Todd and I went out to eat while my parents watched the kids.  It was a fun trip!   It was great to spend the holiday with family.

We stopped in Corbin on the way back and Todd's mom made us a wonderful meal.  We enjoyed the food and company.

After we got home, we put up our Christmas decorations.  We are looking forward to Madison's first Christmas!  Notice her awesome sitting up skills :)

Where did half a year go??  We have been very blessed to have Madison in our family these past 6 months.  She has grown so much and seems to learn something new each day.  I can tell her motor skills are improving rapidly.

Madison enjoyed her first Halloween.  She was a little pumpkin and helped us hand out candy.

While Mommy is Away....

Daddy and Maddie will play!
I went on a retreat to Gatlinburg last weekend with my MUMS group for some rest and fellowship.  I had a wonderful time getting to know the women who went on the trip.  While I was gone Todd's mom came up to help take care of Madison.  I know he really appreciated it!  While they were out, Todd got the idea to pick up this Krispy Kreme hat and some doughnuts.  He set up this fun little photo shoot.  Once I got over the shock and was reassured she didn't actually eat the doughnut, I have to say it was adorable.

First "Meal"

I would like Madison to be eating solid food by 6 months so I decided to start
her on a very small amount of oatmeal cereal mixed with milk to teach her how to eat without a bottle.

Here is how our meal started - Happy Baby!
"Hey Mom! I'm ready to try something new!"

"I'm not sure what's going on..."

"This is messy!  Did you see where my bottle went?"
"NOT fun - I'm done!"

I guess it will take some time before she gets the hang of it. We will try again in a few days :)

5 Months

Madison is 5 months!

Unfortunately, shortly after she turned 5 months she got a high fever so we took her into see the doctor. She had her first ear infection... ugh!  I'm sure it will not be the last either but I hope they are not very often. She was miserable and we felt so bad for her! Thankfully she is feeling much better and back to her normal self.

Feet are fun! Madison has officially found her feet and thinks they are pretty cool :)

Madison is becoming an expert at rolling over. She rolls around on her playmate during the day and all over her crib at night. The only problem is she will roll onto her stomach and forget how to roll back causing her to get mad.  Then, mommy or daddy have to go in and roll her back over until she is finally asleep.

Food!! We started feeding her rice and oatmeal cereal this month. She loves her oatmeal but isn't as impressed with the rice. In a few next weeks, we will introduce new foods like fruit and vegetables :)

Our friends let us borrow a little pumpkin outfit so Madison decided to show it off and get everyone in the mood for fall!

A few facts
Weight - 15 pounds 11 ounces
Diaper Size - 2
Clothing Size - 6 Month
Sleeping - Bed at 8pm, then we wake her for a dream feed and she sleeps 8 [continous] hours

Madison's Room

I've been meaning to do a post on Madison's room for a long time.  I finally have the time while remembering at the same time!

Lexus, our dog, was very spoiled prior to Madison's arrival.  In fact, the room that is now Madison's had a full size bed that was just for her.  But poor Lexus was downgraded to the floor when little Madison came into the picture.

Pre Baby - Lexus' Room

Todd worked hard on her room and with the help of some of our friends, created a beautiful room!

I love how her room turned out.  Thanks Todd, Chris & Brian!!

Madison's First Swim!

On Sunday, our neighborhood had a free swim night at the pool thanks to Todd's hard work on the board.  So we suited up the family & enjoyed the pool for a few hours!

Madison borrowed a swimsuit from a friend - Thanks Charlotte!

Madison loves bath time so I thought she might like the pool.  She seemed to enjoy it!  I anticipate many more swim dates in our future :)

2 Months

Madison turned two months on June 30th!  I'm a little late with my post but she didn't have her 2 month appointment until yesterday.  She received 3 sets of shots which resulted in lots of tears and her first fever :(  It was a long, hard day for our little one (& mom).

Since our last post: 1. We celebrated the 4th of July with friends.  It was hot but still fun.  2. Two of our friends had babies so Madison will have some great friends as she grows!  3. Todd traveled to Las Vegas for a reunion with some of his fraternity brothers.  Madison and mom spent the weekend together.  It was great bonding time but it was also nice to have dad home :)
